3D printed features in the 100 μm range for application in sensing

چکیده
In this work the 3D extrusion printing fabrication process for intricate structures is examined. Required support material normally is removed by brute force water jetting. We investigated the chemical dissolution of Fullcure 705 support material while minimally affecting Fullcure 720 structural material. From several solvents ethanol turned out to be the best with respect to selectivity and dissolution speed. We found that the dissolution process can be theoretically accurately described by the Noyes-Whitney equation, implying that the development of various structures can be predicted quite well. The fabrication process was used to make various 5 mm diameter membranes, ranging in thickness from 112 to 768 μm and their mechanical performance was characterised.

Throughout human history, the most valuable inventions have been those that, even decades after their initial introduction, affected the lives of people around the world. 3D printers similar to steam engines, light bulbs, and the World Wide Web are thought to be among the inventions that will revolutionize the future of different industries. This technology is generally introduced as the manuf...
متن کاملCustomisable 3D printed microfluidics for integrated analysis and optimisation.
The formation of smart Lab-on-a-Chip (LOC) devices featuring integrated sensing optics is currently hindered by convoluted and expensive manufacturing procedures. In this work, a series of 3D-printed LOC devices were designed and manufactured via stereolithography (SL) in a matter of hours. The spectroscopic performance of a variety of optical fibre combinations were tested, and the optimum pat...
متن کاملOptical Approach to Resin Formulation for 3D Printed Microfluidics.
Microfluidics imposes different requirements on 3D printing compared to many applications because the critical features for microfluidics consist of internal microvoids. Resins for general 3D printing applications, however, are not necessarily formulated to meet the requirements of microfluidics and minimize the size of fabricated voids. In this paper we use an optical approach to guide custom ...
